Project themes and work packages matrixThe Centre takes a holistic, big picture approach to the region's sustainability challenges.

Our research projects are defined by the Centre's matrix structure of themes and work packages. Our interdisciplinary team of expert researchers work together to explore our thematic areas from multiple perspectives. For instance, when evaluating how to prioritise retrofit initiatives, a range of questions need to be considered, such as where the best carbon savings will be achieved, who is most affected by fuel poverty, how to incentivise consumers to participate, how to train enough people to retrofit properties and how resilient are the supply chains of key technologies and materials?

Our three themes were collaboratively identified as areas that represent the highest-emitting and most difficult to decarbonise areas of the economy and relate directly to strategic regional priorities.

Our four work packages bring interdisciplinary expertise to thematic research projects. They have been developed to explore the social, economic and environmental knowledge required to identify and deliver solutions to the sustainability challenges of the South Yorkshire region.
