The South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre (SYSC) was rooted in a simple concept. We can only effectively confront the climate and ecological crises that we face if we all work together - across disciplines - across organisations - across political boundaries - across sectors.
Over the last four years we have worked on a wide ranging portfolio of themes, work packages and projects to tackle the key sustainability challenges that South Yorkshire faces.
Partnerships have been central. Working alongside The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University as well as the four local authorities, we have been well placed to tackle the wicked problems that sustainability poses on behalf of the region
Through this report, we want to share our successes and our challenges so that this innovative model could be trialled, iterated and possibly replicated in other regions of the UK and beyond.
