Festival of Debate is the largest grassroots politics festival in the UK supporting active citizenship and democracy. This year's Fetival of Debate runs from 16 April to 25 May and the South Yorskhire Sustainability Centre is really excited to be a part of it.
Events
Our event, Moving Towards Conscientious Consumption will challenge the idea that reduced consumption leads to a reduced quality of life. Although we need to reduce our overall consumption, this may bring benefits such as greater cooperation and stronger communities, reduced outgoings and working hours, and increased overall wellbeing.
We have also partnered with the Grantham Centre on their event, How to Stop Climate Change asking what is being done to protect the beautiful and biodiverse landscape of South Yorkshire and what can people in our region do about the climate crisis?
Online Panel Events
Scholars from the Grantham Centre are also producing 4 online panel debates for the festival exploring solutions to the global polycrisis. You'll have the opportunity to hear experts talk about issues connected to air pollution, food waste, industrial decarbonisation and city infrastructures.
-
Air Pollution: Are Clean Air Zones the answer?
-
Food Waste: Whose responsibility is it?
-
The Green Giants: Industry in 2050
-
